8 Videos from the Theologians on the Christian Life Conference

April 26, 2018 by Andy Naselli

On April 20–21, Bethlehem College & Seminary (my school) and Crossway (my favorite publisher) cohosted the Theologians on the Christian Life Conference.

Steve Nichols and Justin Taylor edit the Theologians on the Christian Life series that Crossway has published since 2012. The series is historically informed and warmly devotional.

Here are eight videos from the conference:

1. Justin Taylor Interviews John Piper

A Model of How to Critique a Theological Giant: Ortlund on Edwards

November 11, 2014 by Andy Naselli

EdwardsThe title of this book’s final chapter is “Four Criticisms”:

Dane C. Ortlund. Edwards on the Christian Life: Alive to the Beauty of God. Theologians on the Christian Life. Wheaton: Crossway, 2014.

Ortlund qualifies,

Jonathan Edwards is way out ahead of me, and probably you, both in living and in theologizing on the Christian life. But the student, standing on the teacher’s shoulders, may on occasion glimpse something the teacher doesn’t. Cautiously, we proceed. (p. 178)

Ortlund unpacks four criticisms (my paraphrases): [Read more…] about A Model of How to Critique a Theological Giant: Ortlund on Edwards

Do You Think I Wouldn’t Obey My Own Rules?

March 9, 2012 by Andy Naselli

In C. S. Lewis’s The Voyage of the Dawn Treader , Lucy reads a spell to make hidden things visible.

To her surprise, Aslan appears in the doorway:

“Oh, Aslan,” said she, “it was kind of you to come.”

“I have been here all the time,” said he, “but you have just made me visible.”

“Aslan!” said Lucy almost a little reproachfully. “Don’t make fun of me. As if anything I could do would make you visible!” [Read more…] about Do You Think I Wouldn’t Obey My Own Rules?

Marsden on Edwards

March 21, 2010 by Andy Naselli

This weekend I listened to the audiobook of George Marsden’s 160-page A Short Life of Jonathan Edwards (Amazon | WTS Books). It’s considerably shorter than Marsden’s 640-page Jonathan Edwards: A Life (Amazon | WTS Books).

Marsden is a good writer and superb historian. Edwards is a remarkable man and God-intoxicated theologian. Good combination. Time well spent.
