8 Videos from the Theologians on the Christian Life Conference

April 26, 2018 by Andy Naselli

On April 20–21, Bethlehem College & Seminary (my school) and Crossway (my favorite publisher) cohosted the Theologians on the Christian Life Conference.

Steve Nichols and Justin Taylor edit the Theologians on the Christian Life series that Crossway has published since 2012. The series is historically informed and warmly devotional.

Here are eight videos from the conference:

The SBC and the Broader Evangelical Community

October 4, 2016 by Andy Naselli

SBCThis is a fascinating new essay:

Collin Hansen and Justin Taylor. “From Babylon Baptist to Baptists in Babylon: The SBC and the Broader Evangelical Community.” Pages 33–49 in The SBC and the 21st Century: Reflections, Renewal, and Recommitments. Edited by Jason K. Allen. Nashville: Broadman & Holman, 2016.

Their thesis is that (a) evangelicals need Southern Baptist conviction and (b) Southern Baptists need evangelical experience. They show that by examining four overlapping pairs of Southern Baptists: [Read more…] about The SBC and the Broader Evangelical Community

On Plagiarism: An Interview with Justin Taylor

December 11, 2015 by Andy Naselli

Yesterday my colleague Joe Rigney announced, “Plagiarism discovered in Justice book by D. Wilson & R. Booth. … Booth confesses; book pulled.”

Justin Taylor, executive vice president of book publishing and book publisher for Crossway, then shared five lessons from this incident:

  • 1. You cannot be too careful when taking notes. Some people plagiarize intentionally, but it often comes from not being careful.
  • 2. Booth is wrong about exact wording of dictionary definitions being excluded from plagiarism.
  • 3. Publishers, authors, teachers, and students should be aware that detection software exists when in doubt: e.g., http://www.ithenticate.com/
  • 4. Some, especially those without academic training, simply haven’t been taught what plagiarism is. Here’s a start http://www.plagiarism.org/plagiarism-101/what-is-plagiarism
  • 5. Plagiarism, intentional or not, is literary theft, and it should be repented of as such.

Justin kindly agreed to answer some questions about plagiarism for my readers:

1. What is plagiarism?

Separated for the Gospel

March 1, 2011 by Andy Naselli

“The New Testament is pretty clear if someone preaches a false gospel . . . that we are to reject that and have nothing to do with them.”

—Justin Taylor, as quoted in an interview with CNN today regarding the recent Rob Bell brouhaha

Guest Blogging

July 31, 2010 by Andy Naselli

It’s been relatively quiet on this blog lately because my family is getting settled after a move. At the beginning of July, we  moved from Trinity’s campus in Deerfield, Illinois, to Moore, South Carolina (explanation here). Deerfield is a relatively posh Chicago suburb; Moore is a relatively quaint Southern community. And we’re enjoying the variety.

It might be even quieter over the next nine days because I’ll be guest-blogging with some other friends at Justin Taylor’s “Between Two Worlds.”
