Reading Koine Greek: An Introduction and Integrated Workbook

March 31, 2015 by Andy Naselli

deckerAt the end of last year the TGC staff cited “best books from 2014.”

This is one of the two books I selected:

Rodney J. Decker. Reading Koine Greek: An Introduction and Integrated Workbook. Grand Rapids: Baker Academic, 2014.

My dear friend Rod Decker went to be with the Lord in May 2014 at age 61, but in spite of his terminal cancer God enabled him to complete two major projects that publishers released in November 2014: [Read more…] about Reading Koine Greek: An Introduction and Integrated Workbook

Rod Decker Reviews the Updated NIV

July 28, 2011 by Andy Naselli

Rodney J. Decker recently reviewed the updated NIV.

The PDF is 50 pages, but the review itself is under 40 pages. (The appendixes start on page 39.)

I read this review carefully last week, and it’s well done.

Decker is professor of New Testament at Baptist Bible Seminary. He’s the author of several books and articles, including these:

  1. Temporal Deixis of the Greek Verb in the Gospel of Mark with Reference to Verbal Aspect. Studies in Biblical Greek 10. Edited by D. A. Carson. New York: Lang, 2001.
  2. “The English Standard Version: A Review Article.” Journal of Ministry and Theology 8, no. 2 (2004): 5–56.
  3. “Verbal-Plenary Inspiration and Translation.” Detroit Baptist Seminary Journal 11 (2006): 25–61.
  4. Koine Greek Reader: Selections from the New Testament, Septuagint, and Early Christian Writers. Grand Rapids: Kregel, 2007.

Update on 3/31/2017: In my latest attempt to explain how to interpret and apply the Bible, I include a chapter on Bible translation (pp. 50–81).

Rod Decker Reviews Con Campbell’s Book on Verbal Aspect

September 17, 2007 by Andy Naselli

Rodney Decker informally reviews the latest volume in D. A. Carson’s SBG series: Constantine R. Campbell, Verbal Aspect, the Indicative Mood, and Narrative: Soundings in the Greek of the New Testament [paperback forthcoming] (ed. D. A. Carson; Studies in Biblical Greek 13; New York: Lang, 2007), xxi + 285 pp.

Rod Decker Is Blogging

August 31, 2007 by Andy Naselli

I just updated this entry on the “theological writings” page of my recommended resources:

  • Rodney J. Decker (bio): Greek, translation, reviews, theology, blog

roddecker.jpg

The updated part of the entry is that Rod Decker just started a blog. Decker is a fine NT scholar, so I immediately added his blog to my blogroll. (If that blogger language is foreign to you, see my basic explanation here.)

Rodney Decker Critiques Bart Ehrman

August 25, 2007 by Andy Naselli

Rodney Decker recently uploaded the following article to his useful NT site: “The Rehabilitation of Heresy: ‘Misquoting’ Earliest Christianity.” Jenni and I were fortunate to be present when he presented this paper in July 2007 in Minneapolis. It’s a thoughtful critique of Bart Ehrman‘s recent works.

Update: An MP3 of Decker’s presentation is now available, along with Decker’s brief explanation of the audio.
