Note on 8/4/2012: I prepared this page in 2006 and only lightly edited it a few times after that.
- Value: Interacting on blogs can be a royal waste of time. Blogging wisely, however, can be insightful and edifying. Many blogs serve as efficient sources for information, allowing you to keep up with the latest news (e.g., book releases) along with insights and updates from theologians and friends.
- Blog Reader: A blog aggregator or feed readeris probably the most efficient means for reading blogs.
- I use Google Reader (Wikipedia).
- For simple explanations on how RSS feedswork, see the following:
- A Primer on RSS Feeds (Matt Perman)
- All About RSS (Tim Challies)
- Video: RSS in Plain English
- What Is RSS? A Step-by-Step Guide to Google Reader (Abraham Piper)
- Blogroll: A blogroll is list of links to other blogs (e.g., Phil Gons and Justin Taylor).
- Favorite Blogs:My blogroll changes frequently, but some of my favorite blogs include the following:
- 9Marks (Mark Dever, et al.)
- Al Mohler
- C. J. Mahaney
- Denny Burk
- Desiring God (John Piper, et al.)
- Jim Hamilton
- Justin Taylor
- Logos Bible Software feeds (Logos)
- Matthew Hoskinson
- National Review
- Phil Gons
- Blog-Reading Strategy:I read the feeds in my blogroll like I would read a newspaper or magazine:
- Swiftly scan the titles. I advance quickly by using the shortcut keys “j” (to advance) and “k” (to go back).
- Skim many articles. I find it most efficient to display entire blog posts when possible rather than to show only their titles.
- Pause to read relatively few blog entries in their entirety—only those that seem most interesting and profitable.
- Email Subscriptions: Some blogs have the option to subscribe via email rather than RSS (e.g., Andy Naselli and Desiring God).
