One God in Three Persons: Unity of Essence, Distinction of Persons, Implications for Life

April 28, 2015 by Andy Naselli

In 2008 I live-blogged a debate at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School between (a) Bruce Ware and Wayne Grudem and (b) Tom McCall and Keith Yandell. They debated this question: “Do relations of authority and submission exist eternally among the Persons of the Godhead?”

TrinityThis week Crossway is releasing a book on that issue:

Bruce A. Ware and John Starke, eds. One God in Three Persons: Unity of Essence, Distinction of Persons, Implications for Life. Wheaton, IL: Crossway, 2015.

This 49-page sample PDF includes the front matter and Wayne Grudem’s opening chapter.

Phil Gons and I coauthored chapter 9: “An Examination of Three Recent Philosophical Arguments against Hierarchy in the Immanent Trinity” (pp. 197–215).

Update on 5/22/2015: Crossway gave me permission to share a PDF of the Gons-Naselli chapter.

Update on 2/6/2019: In this panel on the Triune God, I state that I do not hold to EFS (but neither do I think it is heresy).

A Note to Those Who Follow My Blog via Email or Twitter

July 7, 2012 by Andy Naselli

If you follow my blog via email or Twitter, then you haven’t been receiving automatic updates since June 12. (If you subscribe via the RSS feed, then you shouldn’t have experienced a problem.) On June 12, I somehow included an unsupported character in a blog post that broke the feed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Many thanks to my webmaster, Phil Gons, for figuring this out and in the process redesigning the site with a new theme.

Here are links to the eleven blog posts I published between June 12 and July 6 (#10 is my favorite):

  1. Sale on Dispatches from the Front DVDs
  2. Wise Words: Family Stories That Bring the Proverbs to Life
  3. Covenant Eyes

Trinity Debate: Ware-Grudem vs. McCall-Yandell

October 9, 2008 by Andy Naselli

Tonight I live-blogged a Trinity Debate between Bruce Ware and Wayne Grudem vs. Tom McCall and Keith Yandell on this question: “Do relations of authority and submission exist eternally among the Persons of the Godhead?”

During the Q&A, I asked a question from Phil Gons, who was watching the debate via live streaming and emailed me the question. I was disappointed in Dr. Yandell’s answer. Basically, he made fun of the question, apparently because it did not compute with his metaphysical system. Frustrating. Phil shares and explains his penetrating question more here and here.

Tips for Safer Surfing with a Firefox Browser

October 6, 2008 by Andy Naselli

Phil Gons shares that Firefox has some add-ons that can serve as tools for safer surfing online:

  1. Adblock Plus automatically blocks most ads on most sites. You can also allow them on some sites.
  2. Nuke Anything Enhanced allows you to right-click on any image to remove it instantly.
  3. Flashblock works similarly for Flash.
  4. Web Developer instantly removes all images on a page when you type Alt-t-w-i-n.

Accountability

February 12, 2008 by Andy Naselli

By Philip R. Gons, Matthew C. Hoskinson, and Andrew David Naselli

(cross-posted at our respective blogs: Gons, Hoskinson, Naselli)

Christians will give an account to God for their lives, and wise Christians live in light of that sobering reality (Rom 14:12; 2 Cor 5:10). Consequently, we have covenanted to keep each other accountable in preparation for our future accounting. Since some of our friends have asked us about our method of accountability, we decided to co-author this article in order to glorify God by provoking other Christians to seek out a greater degree of accountability.

“Reflections on Logos Books and Print Books After Moving”

November 21, 2007 by Andy Naselli

Phil Gons reflects on advantages of Logos books over print books after moving his his library from South Carolina across the country to Washington. I heartily agree with him!

Cf. “Are E-Books Riskier Than Print Books?” and “How Is an E-Library Superior to a Print Library?” in my review of Scholar’s Library: Gold (Logos Bible Software).
