Some Thoughts about Writing

July 30, 2009 by Andy Naselli

I just thoroughly enjoyed reading this informative, entertaining, overstated article (even though I do a lot of copy-editing!):

Thomas Sowell, “Some Thoughts about Writing,” 2001.

Just ran across this the other day myself. Very good stuff, not only about writing itself, but about all facets of controversial publishing on the edge between academia and the populace.

Thanks for posting that. It’s a classic. I especially enjoyed his remarks about academic writers… we’ve got a few who post at SI regularly who came immediately to mind! Never say in a short clear sentence what you can say in fifteen obscure ones. Ya sound smarter that way.
    Sowell’s a very interesting man.
