Overshadowed

February 28, 2009 by Andy Naselli

Last night Jenni and I attended our fourth or fifth play by Overshadowed Theatrical Productions: “Unshaken Love: The Story of Ruth.”

From left to right: Ruth (Paula Wiggins), Naomi (Reba Hervas), and Orpah (Kady Debelak)

Reba Hervas (i.e., Naomi) wrote this play and also serves as president of Overshadowed. She skillfully communicates the message of Ruth in a vivid and theologically informed way. Very edifying!

We have thoroughly enjoyed these productions. Their quality is outstanding (especially considering that the actors are all volunteers), and they accomplish both the mission and purpose of Overshadowed:

  • Mission: Providing drama that is overshadowed by the truth and power of God and His Word, the Bible.
  • Purpose: Delivering quality, family-friendly drama that entertains, inspires, and promotes a Biblical message. Reaching out to the suburban community, we seek to point the way to Christ.

If you’re ever in the Chicago area, we’d warmly recommend visiting Overshadowed. It’s currently located in Itasca (near Wheaton). Most of the performances of “Unshaken Love: The Story of Ruth” are sold out, but it was just extended for two additional performances on March 14.

Update: Justin Taylor, with whom we attended this play, comments on Overshadowed.

I second that! I’ve enjoyed every play I’ve seen at Overshadowed, but Unshaken Love has a special place in my heart. I can’t wait to see what God does with this theater!
