Essays in Honor of Douglas J. Moo

May 12, 2015 by Andy Naselli

On November 19, 2014 in San Diego during the Evangelical Theological Society’s annual meeting, Biblica, the Committee on Bible Translation, and Zondervan presented “The NIV 50th Anniversary Dinner and Program: Celebrating the Commissioning of the NIV.”

At the event Doug Moo, chair of the Committee on Bible Translation, spoke about the NIV. Here’s what he said (available as a free PDF):

Douglas J. Moo. We Still Don’t Get It: Evangelicals and Bible Translation Fifty Years after James Barr. Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2014. 14 pp.

MooFsBut prior to Moo’s address, Matt Harmon and Jay Smith surprised him with a Festschrift:

Matthew S. Harmon and Jay E. Smith, eds. Studies in the Pauline Epistles: Essays in Honor of Douglas J. Moo. Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2014. 311 pp.

Matt Harmon wrote about it the next day and shared what he said when he presented the volume to Doug.

Here’s a video of the surprise presentation (which I enjoyed witnessing):

I thank God for Doug Moo. Not only has Doug helped me better understand God’s word; he models theological humility.
