    Andy,
Thanks so much for posting this. I needed this today, especially after what was a big loss to me yesterday.

Good stuff. The “health and prosperity gospel” is dangerous for all the reasons that Piper articulates. But I think it is also dangerous because in essence it says that God is not God – you and I are God. We are the ones who tell God not only what we want, but also what we need. Clearly the proponents of this “gospel” have never taken seriously the content of Job, as well as many of the psalms and much of the wisdom literature, the message of Jesus, etc.

Great clip! There is far more idol worship in our churches than we would like to admit.

John Piper is absolutely right about prosperity gospel. Yes, I don’t mind prospering socially, financially, intellectually, spiritually, and any other form of prosperity. However, these take second place when we realize that God gave His life for us. That is the true gospel. Any other additions are pure idolatry. We appreciate ministers like you for voicing out the true gospel.

    Andy,

Thanks for sharing this. I am doing a “difficult issues” talk at CrossWay Community Church in July and was hoping you might have some resources to help prepare. Thanks for posting this, would you have any other books or articles you’d recommend off the top of your head?

    Thanks,
    Bryan
