I joyfully read the interchange between Drs Naselli and McCune as an evangelical pastor who is sometimes jealous of the doctrinal purity/clarity of the fundamentalist movement in contradistinction to some of the things that are happening in the evangelical world today. I'm thankful to Dr Naselli for calling attention to the best of the evangelical movement (there truly are some wonderful things happening) and I am equally grateful that Dr McCune has helped me better to understand my fundamentalist brethren (am I allowed to use that phrase?). I realize that my comments probably make me sound like a typical evangelical who wants to have my doctrinally pure theological cake and eat it too and not offend anyone in the process, but that's the perennial rub isn't it? It's sometimes hard to triangulate conviction with courage and compassion, but it's certainly worth the effort.
Thanks to both men for instructing and encouraging me,
-Jason Dahlman

Brother/Dr. Naselli:
A very irenic and keen review of the venerable McCune's book. I appreciate likewise Dr. McCune's thoughful response. You both have done a service to Christ's church.
May the Lord bless you both for it!

[...] Over at Andy Naselli’s blog, he has a very thorough and excellent review of my former theology professor at DBTS’ most recent book. Promise Unfulfilled: The Failed Strategy of Modern Evangelicalism by Rolland D. McCune is an excellent recent treatment that looks at Evangelicalism from a Fundamentalist perspective. Naselli’s review is excellent. But even better, McCune replies! This is great interaction over this excellent book. Check it out here. [...]

Guys,

This has been a thrill...... I know anytime you write to this level it demands the sacrificial giving of energy and time you could easily spend on other demands. I'm appreciative of the back and forth here. As Kevin notes this sort of exchange has been needed (I would add "for years").....I think all sides have been somewhat hesitant for interaction at this level......with this charity......and with this candor.....Thanks to you both sirs!

Straight Ahead!

[...] Oct 17th, 2007 by Pearson For those of you who have read Dr. McCune’s book, an acquaintance of mine from BJU, now at TEDS, has written a review of the book (which is overall positive).
