@Jim,

Sorry we've upset you with the release of Logos 4. A couple things that might help. First, you are not required to upgrade to Logos 4. We will continue to support Logos 3 in the future and release free updates to it as needed. So, in that regard nothing has changed for you.

In regards to upgrade pricing for Logos 4, the cost is mostly wrapped into the new resources available in each of the new base packages. For example, if you are upgrading from any Logos 3 base package to Logos 4 Platinum, you are getting, potentially hundreds of new books. That upgrade alone has 1 commentary series and 1 book that, together, sell for over $300... and that is just 2 of the resources you get with the upgrade. So, bang-for-you-buck is certainly there. In fact, these are some of the best deals we've ever offered on base package crossgrades and upgrades.

Finally, as for your annoyance with "all these ’superior upgrades’ which are neither superior nor an ‘upgrade’.. instead they are methodically planned to enhance the company’s bank account!" I'd point out that this is the first major release Logos has put out in over 3 years. It is a complete reworking of our program from the ground up. It has been in development for 3 years and we have a staff of more than 170 people who have worked on this product. So, yes, we are a business and we sell our product to pay the salary of our employees and invest in continually developing our product. If this is offensive to you, I apologize, but I'm pretty sure that it is how every software company in the world works.

If I can be of further assistance, you are welcome to contact me directly at ryan@logos.com.

if it is free, then I apologize for the word 'extort'... I am tired of all these 'superior upgrades' which are neither superior nor an 'upgrade'.. instead they are methodically planned to enhance the company's bank account!
I have been with Logos since the days of Nelson Library Unlocks through Libronix version 3.
I own many of their products and have dealt with the company for a long time... so is this how I lack understanding of their products or operation?

Jim, I'm sorry you feel this way.

"Extort" is too strong, even slanderous. Your comments suggest that you feel this way because you lack information re Logos's product and operation. Before you level such serious accusations against them, I suggest that you try to understand the situation better. You can start by using the contact info I've linked to above in the post.

Have been reading all morning about the new Logos 4 Upgrade.. so far it looks to me like they have found a way to extort another hundred or more dollars from me in order to use the "new system'... I have purchased hundreds of dollars of stuff from Logos and yet to this day can not afford BHS (The Hebrew Bible) {which by the way I noticed just last night the Logos version of BHS does not even have the critical apparatus!]
I purchase the Pre-Pubs because of the the lower prices.
Now Logos is going to try to extort from me over a hundred or more dollars for books I do not even want and still no BHS!!!!!!!
I have also always wanted Keil and Delitzsch Commentary from Logos.. but again.. the price is too high! Thankfully E-Sword has K&D... and E-Sword has an interest other than money....unlike Logos!!!!!

@Dan: You seem to have misunderstood the pricing structure. Existing users don't have to pay thousands or even hundreds of dollars to upgrade. Just go to http://www.logos.com/upgrade and sign in to get your upgrade price.

Very disappointed with the pricing! It is nearly a slap in the face to those of us who have used this engine and purchased hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to increase our libraries only to have to spend nearly a thousand for a new engine? Not cool and not customer friendly to say the least. Very disappointed.

Andy,

Thanks for the post - I have been looking at Logos for over a year now and I think this will be another reason why I should purchase it - nice layout and integration with iPhone - maybe they can get a little more broader and contact Blackberry ;)

I've been looking for sometime for a decent Bible software package and am considering Logos. Let me guess, Andy, you're a PC? Well, I'm a Mac and unless and until Logos....Well you know the rest.
